Overview

The Chief Engineer is responsible for leading the Engineering Department and overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of all resort systems and equipment. This role ensures the resort remains safe, efficient, and well-maintained for guests and team members, while supporting capital improvement plans and sustainability efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering team in addressing technical issues that impact daily operations.

  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and life safety systems.

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety and building regulations.

  • Collaborate with department leaders to support operational needs and guest satisfaction.

  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance programs for guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces.

  • Monitor energy usage and implement efficiency strategies to support sustainability goals.

  • Maintain all required documentation and inspection records.

  • Coordinate with external contractors and vendors as needed.

  • Support capital project planning and execution.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering or General Manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years of engineering or maintenance experience in a hotel, resort, or similar environment, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.

  • Strong knowledge of building systems, codes, and preventive maintenance practices.

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to lead a team and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Familiarity with CMMS systems is a plus.

  • Proven track record of safety, compliance, and effective communication with stakeholders.
